The “ Caracara”
Caracara Plancus
The Caracaras are predator birds that have lived in the Guanacaste region for centuries. Their name comes from the repetitive sound they emit.
Currently three Caracara birds live in Monkey Park. One of them has a crippled wing which makes it impossible for the bird to survive in the wild. The second was raised in illegal captivity and lacks the necessary skills to survive on its own. The third and last to arrive, was brought to Monkey Park because of its old age and blindness.
