Juancha, Guatavo and Chuca:
Three American Crocodiles
Cocodylus acutus
The American crocodiles are a fresh water species that inhabits the low parts of the Pacific and Atlantic regions in Costa Rica. Three of them live in Monkey Park; their names are Juancha, Gustavo and Chuca: two females and one male.
Juancha, Gustavo and Chuca came to Monkey Park a little over four years ago, when they were still young. They were found in the river bed of a stream in this zone. They were brought to the park by the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
A new pond
Juancha, Gustavo and Chuca have grown up healthy and are in good condition. We plan on building them a bigger pond where they can eventually mate and have offspring. The offspring will be integrated into their natural wild habitat.
