On Carolina’s Memory
Carolina came to Monkey Park in the beginning of 2004. As most of the other animals, she was brought to the park by the personnel of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE), after being seized from her past owners. Carolina was the pet of the owners of a hotel located on Playa Real, Cabo Velas, Guanacaste. She was frequently seen at the main entrance of the hotel’s restaurant. They still have a wooden sign with her name.
Carolina used to be on a very long leash so those who visited the restaurant fed her all types of food: hamburgers, French fries, pizza, candy, carbonated water and even beer. When the personnel of MINAE went for her, the owners didn’t argue because they knew the little monkey would have a better life in Monkey Park. We aren’t sure about what happened to her before the hotel, but we have been told that she had another owner who picked her up off the road after a circus abandoned her.
The Fat Beauty
When Carolina was brought to Monkey Park, it looked as if she were going to explode from the fat. She was put on a diet and lost weight. However, it was not enough to recover the slim and extended figure of the Monkey Spider. Infortunately, her dreadful nourishment had already damaged her body; her defense system, her kidneys, her intestines, liver, and heart were severely affected. Carolina died in the middle of June, 2006.
In order to prevent this from happening to any other animal, we ask that you adopt in memory of Carolina. You will be helping to support the environmental education programs that we have been implementing in the area.
Adopt- in memory of Carolina!
